Albert
Here's one of our favourites, a loved-to-baldness, humpbacked William J.Terry bear c.1918, standing 61 cms (24") tall. Albert is all original except for a restored mouth, and has the signature large, flat clear glass eyes with big black pupils, and painted backs now mostly worn clear. Other typical characteristics include his large cupped ears and long straight body, plus high humped back.

He's hard-stuffed with woodwool, and has cotton twill pads in good condition, along with original cardlined feet, both with sewn repairs around the soles, and up onto each foot. There's also a repair to the front seam of one ankle, and the stuffing has settled a little around his neck, so his head is a bit wobbly, but secure.

Albert's joints all work fine, and he has a clunking voice box that no longer growls. Only sparse tufts of his bright gold mohair remain, but he's a strong old bear with a most appealing expression. Albert is wearing his worn antique linen top embroidered with hearts and vintage trousers. His name is teutonic, meaning 'Noble and illustrious'.

English Mohair Terry bears were made for only a relatively short time from around 1912 until the company closed prior to World War 2.
