Juliane
This gorgeous, star-gazing, blonde mohair Steiff girl with blank button in her ear c.1905, is all original and 30 cms (12") tall, with shoebutton eyes and a tan-stitched nose and mouth. She's stuffed with a mix of woodwool and kapok and, although much of her fur has been loved away, she still has about 15-20% remaining.
Her felt pads are in reasonable condition, with a few stitches and patched repairs. She has a full set of tan claws, and all her joints work fine. There's a squeaker in her tummy, no longer working, and three small sewn repairs to her hump, lower torso, and 'chin' seam. Also, part of one mouth thread is missing, giving her a bewitching, lopsided smile. The thread that remains has been re-secured.
Overall, Juliane's a lovely strong teddy, with a long, elegant upturned muzzle, and wonderful deep-set eyes. She's wearing her old handknitted cardi with antique crochet skirt and collar. Her name is the female German form of the Latin Julianus, meaning 'descended from Jupiter'. She's certainly a star!
