Harish & Herbie
A couple of charismatic chimps, Harish is an amazing old Schuco monkey c.1920s He's around 20 cms (8.5") tall, fully-jointed and solidly stuffed with woodwool. He has original clear glass eyes and felt ears, and has obviously led an active life swinging through the trees in the jungle!
His poor hands and feet are worn with old crude repairs, and he's stuffed himself with so many bananas over the years, someone lovingly recovered his mouth with fabric sewn with bold black stitches. It certainly makes him stand out in a crowd!
Harish has wired limbs and a worn out squeaker in his back, probably due to an excess of chimp chat.
He has lots of lovely caramel-coloured mohair, and is a truly mischievous character.
Wearing his cute knitted outfit and old rusty bell, which enables him to communicate with his fellow chimp, Herbie,Harish is a Hindi name, composed of the elements hari for 'monkey' and isa for 'lord', making him lord of the monkeys!
Little Herbie, is a playful Steiff baboon c.1950s (no button, just a hole in his ear)). He's all original, wearing his red collar, and has tiny green glass eyes, and airbrushed features. Stuffed with woodwool, and unjointed, he's 10 cms (4") tall, with felt hands and feet. In lovely condition, he's kept most of his mohair, and is a wonderful expressive animal wearing his miniature top hat.
