Siggie
A precious, and very rare, early apricot mohair humpbacked Steiff bear, with tiny blank button nestling in his ear c.1905. Filled with kapok, Siggie is 41 cms (16") tall, with original shoebutton eyes and cardlined feet.
He's been well-loved, and has patched repairs to each side of his muzzle, as well as to his right wrist. There's also a small area of wear to the top of his nose, which is an old restoration, along with his mouth. One ankle has a stitched repair too.
His original felt footpads pads are in holes showing the blue felt underlay, and his pawpads have been replaced. But, despite his obvious wear, he's a good strong bear, and has kept about 40% of his apricot fur, which has retained much of its colour.
Siggie is wearing his handmade wool sailor jacket with nautical badge, sailor hat and Victorian leather boots. He's a lovely character and his name is short for Siegfried, which is from the Old German meaning 'peace after victory'.
